[Story] Shopping for White Day
Synopsis: Yuma and Yuya decide to go into Domino City to find White Day gifts for Yuzu and Kotori. Hilarious hi-jinks with an over-enthusiastic shop keeper ensues.
Takes place Sunday March 1st
The week had not been so great for Yuma, Yuzu and Yuya. They had finally decided to confront Desperado about the harassment of the two boys, only for them to not only face an unexpected Dark Game set up by Hayate which had gone out of control through the school, but also had to battle a demon who has hell bent on killing them, as well as bringing it's kind into their world to feast upon the Academy.
Although they were able to stop such a catastrophe from happening, the three of them soon found themselves temporarily arrested by the Academy's security team, along with Hibiki and Hayate, for dueling after hours in a restricted location. Although Noriko had argued in their favour, the Academies committee board still found the three of them guilty and had threatened them with expulsion from the school, though they were allowed to fight that decision in expulsion duels. Though until they could, they had been suspended from classes.
There was a lot hanging over their heads and it didn't help that their bodies were still injured from the duels previously.
Despite this, Yuma and Yuya had decided to still carry out their trip to Domino City that Sunday. They had it planned just before the events earlier that week and they had decided that they should still go through with it, after all, it might help take their minds off things for a while.
Besides, the trip was an important one. It was only a few weeks before White Day, they still needed to find gifts in return for the ones Yuzu gave them both, and the one Kotori gave to Yuma.
Walking through the city streets, most of the shop windows were advertising something for White Day and there were a number of chocolate displays with paper decorations full of hearts and streamers.
Eventually, the boys laid eyes on a specialist confectionery store. It boasted the same type of display than the other stores, but this one made it's own chocolates and even sold items so others could make chocolates.
Well, it was better than nothing.
Tentatively, the two boys walked into the shop and glanced around. Their hesitant looks soon turned to ones of amazement as they drooled over all the amazing chocolates on display. They all looked so delicious.
Looking around, they soon spotted a large display in the store for white day specific chocolates, all of which were neatly packaged in pretty boxes, decorated with hearts, ribbons and bows.
It all seemed a BIT much for what they were looking for...
As they mulled over their choices, they caught the eye of the store owner who was stood behind the counter. He watched them for a while as they picked up boxes, looked them over, then put them back, undecided. He could tell that they seemed a little confused and unsure about what to get, so he grinned and walked over to them.
"Looking for something for yer girlfriends, ey boys?"
Both Yuma and Yuya's heads snapped up to look at the shop keeper. Yuya, with an awkward smile, lifted his hands up and waved them around defensively.
"A-ah, it's nothing like that..."
"Nonsense!" the shop keeper replied, as he placed his hand on Yuya's shoulder. "I'll make sure you'll get great gifts for them!"
"NOW, what kind of things does yer girl like?"
"Ah, she's not..." Yuya had a feeling that anything he would say would go in one ear and out the other with this guy. Yuya looked awkwardly over to Yuma, his face begging him to help, but Yuma simply grinned and crossed his arms. This was the perfect payback after Yuya teased him so much about getting a gift from Kotori.
Yuya gave out a sigh and decided to reply to the shop keeper. After all, it didn't really matter if this random guy thought he had a girlfriend or not, right? The important thing was to get something for Yuzu in the end.
"Er, well, she likes music..."
"MUSIC! GREAT! I have just the thing!" the shop keeper reached out to the display and plucked one of the boxes of chocolate off it. He lowered it down so Yuya could take a look at it. The box was neatly presented with a very cute music and heart illustration on the front. Through the clear plastic window, Yuya could see white music note shaped chocolates, but for every one of those, there seemed to be an equal amount of red coloured heart chocolates.
"Um, aren't the hearts a bit... much...?"
"Don't be shy, boy!" The shop keeper exclaimed. "Your girl would love this, I'm sure!"
Yuya facepalmed, his face flushing a bright red that was almost the same colour as his hair. He could hear Yuma sniggering behind him.
"Okay... do you have one with just the music note chocolates?"
The shop keeper raised an eyebrow at Yuya. "You're a tough one, huh? No I don't." He placed the box of chocolates back on the display and looked around, his face then lit up as he picked up something else.
"Well, if yer too shy for the hearts, how about showin' her how much you love her by making your own chocolates! I sell the molds that I use to make these 'ere chocolates after all!"
The shop keeper held up a plastic chocolate mold to Yuya, which had the molds for various different musical notes on it. Yuya took it from him to take a closer look.
Yuzu did make the chocolates she gave to him and Yuma herself, after all, so it would be nice to make something for her in return. They would be simple to make. All he had to do was melt down the chocolate, put them in the molds and let them set.
"Ah, okay, I'll take a few of these then!"
"Good choice, lad! I'm sure she'll love 'em!"
"R-Right..."
Yuma was in a fit of laughter at Yuya's awkward face, but that soon ended when the shop keeper approached him.
"Now, how about you? What does your girl like?"
"E-er..." Yuma stuttered, now looking very awkward himself. It was Yuya's turn to grin and laugh at him. "Well, I'm technically getting something for two..."
"TWO!?" The shop keeper bellowed out a loud laugh as he patted Yuma on the back hard enough that the boy lurched forward a bit. "You're quite the player, huh??"
"I.. I... WHAT!?" Yuma stood in shock for a moment. Does this guy now think he had two girlfriends? "A-ah!! No! One's just a friend! I MEAN BOTH ARE...! I MEAN...!"
Oh god, that was not the save he was hoping for. He blushed and fidgeted awkwardly where he was stood as Yuya held a hand over his mouth trying to hide his laughter.
"M-maybe I'll just take a look at the other molds you have and also make my own!!"
Yuma quickly moved away from the shop keeper and over to where the the chocolate molds and Yuya were. He bent down to take a look through them.
He spent some time going through them as Yuya went to pick up some white and milk chocolate they could melt down. In the end Yuma chose a standard chocolate mold for Yuzu, but picked up a few different molds for Kotori as he couldn't quite decide what to get her. He finally chose a mold with some cute shapes, such as stars and flowers and one with some cute duel monster shapes, like Kuribohs.
Once they had chosen their items, they paid for them and decided to try and make a quick exit.
"Thanks boys!! I hope yer girlfriends love what ya make 'em!!"
They both looked back with awkward smiles on their faces.
"A-ah, thanks!" Yuya exclaimed, before both boys dived out of the shop.
-----------------------------------
"Here!"
Yuya tossed Yuma a soda can as he approached where he was sat on the low wall surrounding the clock that stood at the centre of Domino City Plaza. Yuma caught the can and grinned at his friend.
"Thanks, Yuya!"
He opened the can and drank from it as Yuya sat down beside him, also opening his.
"Ahh, who knew shopping for White Day would be so difficult..." he sighed, before taking a drink himself.
"I know what you mean!" Yuma exclaimed back. "But I guess we managed to get what we needed in the end."
Yuma reached into the shopping bag he had with him by his feet and took out one of the molds he got for Kotori's chocolate. "Maaan, I hope these chocolates turn out okay..."
"It's pretty simple to do." Yuya replied. "All we have to do is melt down the chocolate we got and then let them set in the molds. After that we can decorate them!"
Yuma was not exactly the best person to be making things in a kitchen and he knew it, but Yuya's reassurance set his mind a bit more at ease. They did sound very simple to make. "Right!!" He then looked back down at the mold, glancing over it over fondly.
Yuya watched Yuma curiously for a moment, before smiling a little.
"...you like her, huh?"
Yuya's words broke Yuma out of his daze as he looked up at him. "Eh...?"
"Kotori." Yuya clarified. "You like her more than a friend, right?"
Yuma seemed surprised and at a loss for words at first. He tried to think of an answer to that, but nothing would come. Slowly, he frowned slightly and looked at the floor.
"...I don't know." He finally replied, placing the mold back in the bag. "I wondered if maybe she gave me the valentine's gift as a friend, like Yuzu did but... I feel like she meant it as more than that. I don't know why, but..." he rubbed his neck a little in frustration. "I've never really thought about this kind of stuff before, so it's all really REALLY confusing! I really don't know how I'm supposed to feel about this!" He sighed. "I guess right now I have other things to think about than that, though."
"Yeah... guess so." Yuya replied, frowning a little himself, remembering their current situation, but he soon snapped himself out of those thoughts and grinned at Yuma. "Though I'm sure things will work themselves out with Kotori! You're both friends, after all!"
Yuma grinned back and nodded. "Yeah! You're right!! No matter what happens between us, she and I will always be friends!"
With that, Yuma finished his drink and stood up, placing the soda can in a nearby trash can.
"So hey, what do you say to heading to the arcade for a bit?" he asked. "I think we totally deserve some fun after this last week."
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea!" his friend agreed, as he also stood up.
"Good! Because I'm gonna challenge you to every game that's there!!"
Yuya looked at Yuma curiously. "Oh? The last time you did that I won by a landslide."
"H-Hey! I bet I can beat you this time!" Yuma exclaimed, pointing a finger at Yuya.
"I'd like to see you try~!" Yuya responded as he cheerfully raced ahead of Yuma.
"O-oi! Hey! Wait up!"
With that, Yuma took off after his friend, catching up with him easily and grabbing him playfully in a headlock as he did. Both boys laughed as they headed in the direction of the arcade.
