I officially sent off my idea for adding Action Cards to Action Dueling to the Leo Corporation this past weekend after working on the idea in what spare time I had. It was a lot of work to figure out how to include them and make them balanced so people couldn't misuse them, but I think I managed to work it all out.
The basic ideas I had were:
* I decided to remove the effects of the Action Fields and instead replaced them with the effects of Action Cards. The field will serve as the stage and once an Action duel begins, action cards will scatter around the field. Then during the duel, either player can pick up the cards in order to use them.
* Action Spells can be picked up at any time and either can be used straight away, or can be held onto for later. They can also be used for discarding effects!
* Most Action Cards are spell cards and are designed to help a duelist when they're in a pinch.
* I decided to add a bit more of a thrill to picking up action cards and also suggested introducing Action Traps, which, unlike spells, where you get to choose when to activate them, an action trap will activate straight away once picked up and may very well work against the duelist that picked it up. These are much rarer though and maybe specific to certain fields.
* You may only hold onto one Action Card at any given time. This is to stop people finding and hoarding them for use later on.
* There is a set time limit in which a duelist can go looking for an Action Card. This is there just so it stops someone trying to stall a duel to search for an Action card.
Since I was still unsure about changing something my dad pioneered without being able to talk to him first about it, I suggested that this version with the Action Cards should be a separate mode from the current way Action Duels are set out. This way, I could see through this idea, but also preserve what my dad created. I talked to my mom a lot before I sent off the idea and she felt that my dad would of really supported my idea and told me to go for it, which I'll admit, gave me a lot of confidence to finally send the idea off.
The Action Card idea won't be able to get off the ground if I can't get someone who knows how to code the real solid vision system to take interest in it, so now all I can do is wait and see if I get a reply.
Other than this, I also got the official go-ahead for both the formal summer dance event for early summer and the barbecue event for late summer! I just need to work out details and the dates of when I'd like to hold them.
