*A day after the events, leading to the duel between Yuya and Yuma, Yuya had woke up to find himself at the Academy's infirmary.
He was covered in scrapes, bruising and some burns, but thankfully nothing that wouldn't heal on it's own fully in time. Even his left leg was thankfully not too heavily injured, just currently swollen with some minor puncture wounds. He was still in a lot of pain, and he was still exhausted, but he was going to be okay.

Laying in the infirmary bed, he just stared up at the ceiling of the room in a daze. He'd seen more than enough of the infirmary last year and he really hadn't wanted to start off the new year back in this place, but, it couldn't be helped. In the end, he was just glad that he was able to return Yuma back to normal.
Though he wondered what kind of impact all this would have on his friend when he woke up.
Right now, Yuma, who was in the bed next to his, was still unconscious and he expected him to stay like that for a while longer yet. He'd really pushed himself to, and beyond, his own limits thanks to the influence the chaotic energy had over him.
It was going to take a while for Yuma to recover from that.

On the table, beside his bed, was his duel disk. On top of it was the dragon he used in the duel with Yuma.

[An amused sigh might snap you out of your daze, Yuya.]

Geez, and I thought my track record with the medics was bad when I was here...

[That's a large man in a duster jacket leaning against the far wall. When did we get here.]

E-Eh?!

*Yuya looks at Onni and wonders when he actually got there. Man, he must of REALLY been spacing not to notice him.*

Wakahisa-sensei said I'm what is known as a 'Yuuki Special'.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I was one myself when I was here, so don't feel too bad.

[ He's walking over, but still keeping enough distance so Yuya doesn't feel too threatened.]

Sakaki Yuya, right? I don't think we've been formally introduced. The name's Onni. I'm the head of the "Special Investigations" department of Domino's police force.

Oh! You're the cop guy Yuma talks to every so often!

*He then goes briefly silent as Onni approaches.*

Hey, you're also the guy Wakahisa-sensei showed me pictures of earlier!

Yeah, that's right - wait, pictures?

Oh no, don't tell me she showed you my before and after pictures...

[He's laughing, embarrassed.]

Jeez...

*Yuya laughs a little in response too.*

Yeah, she did! You looked way different in the before picture!

Yeah, I really did. I was kind of a wimp for a while, but... well. I needed to get tougher, so I just kinda did, you know? I had some people help me train up to be tougher... and I guess that's kind of how I got where I am.

[He comes over to the bed.]

...Anyway, I'd... heard that you and Yuma were in bad shape, but I didn't hear what exactly happened. You think you could enlighten me a bit?

Yuma and I were approached by one of the Barians and she challenged Yuma to a duel which he accepted. She was purposely trying to push him and put pressure on him during the duel, she said something about having interest in his progress and that in someone's records, his name was marked with gold stars and underlined.
She wouldn't say whose records those were though.

She was using deck destruction and got Yuma down to one card left in his deck, which was the Rank-Up Magic card he was given by Labrys. He used it and...
... it backfired on him. It drowned him and Hope in what was described as 'pure chaos energy'. Due to that, it forced him into a corrupted version of his ZEXAL form and he was really confused. He couldn't tell friend from foe. It also caused his feelings of anger over Heartland, that we think he had been burying, to come forward and be the only thing on his mind.

Because he couldn't tell friend from foe, he saw me as someone to blame over what happened to his hometown, he didn't know it was me he was fighting at all.
He must of done dark draws about... maybe 15 or 20 times... it was a lot. He used his power beyond it's own capability.
I was able to eventually dispel the chaotic energy around Yuma and return him to normal.

It seems that the Barian that pushed him to duel in the first place was working outside of the other Barians... or at least, Labrys didn't seem all to happy about what she did when she arrived during my duel with Yuma.
That Barian though was apparently the one that made their, and Yuma's, Rank-Up Magic cards. Yuma's backfired because it was a prototype.

[His brow is furrowed as Yuya explains, nodding along - though there's a lot of gritting of his teeth when he hears of "raw chaos energy".]

...It sounds like you really bailed him out, there. Yuya.

I'm... concerned about all this chaos energy. It's something I've been working on figuring out, but I can't say I've heard of something like that.

Though jeez, 20 dark draws... hopefully he comes to soon.

I hope so too, but they're expecting him to be unconscious for a while yet. He really exhausted himself.

Rank-Up-Magics, chaos energy, a rogue Barian...

It seems like every time we get a handle on this situation, we get another curveball.

*Yuya gives out a sigh.*

Yeah. That seems to be how it works.
